UK ferries - driving abroad
• Ensure that you display a GB sticker in the rear of your vehicle
as this is a legal requirement whilst driving abroad.
•
Most regular breakdown policies will not extend to cover abroad, which could
potentially be when you will need it most. Before you go away make sure you
find out how far your policy extends and take out further assurance for European
cover should you need it. Remember to take your reference and helpline numbers
with you when you leave.
•
If you will be driving on the right hand side of the road then you will need
to equip your car with a set of headlight converters; this is a legal requirement.
•
Remember to bring your driving licence with you, even if you also have an
international driving permit.
•
Outside of the EU you will need a Green Card in order to prove that you meet
the minimum level of insurance required. You can obtain this from your car
insurance provider before you go.
•
If you are unsure of the driving regulations in the country you intend to
visit then make sure you find out before you go. It is also a good idea to
check out the country advice section on the Foreign
and Commonwealth Office website, which contains some useful advice on driving and vehicle safety.
